Rehabilitation robotics in the hospital Child Jesus

 

Professional Services Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital Niño Jesús, and engineers from the CSIC and the Biomechanics Institute of Valencia (IBV), presented the research project which aims to develop and analyze clinically the value it can bring a coach robotics in the rehabilitation process following surgery. The main objective is to develop and validate such a robotic platform and get so the patient recovers faster and, after a period of rehabilitation, can walk better.

 

 

Project characteristics

 

 

The platform is formed by a robotic exoskeleton a neuro and a walker. The robot copy human movement, thereby facilitating the recovery of the patient motion. Implement strategies of gait training with weight bearing the patient, guiding the movement of your joints, to induce changes in brain structures affected and macha generate standardized patterns. A computer tool set will allow the therapist intervention and obtain information from their results, during the rehabilitation session and after it, to check your progress. In this project, funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, will cost 164,900 euros.

 

The workshop program included in the First International Conference on Neurorehabilitation, organized by the Hospital of Paraplegics in Toledo and CSIC was coordinated by Dr. Ignacio Martínez, an orthopedic surgeon at the Hospital Child Jesus and Paolo Bonato, director of the department Health Sciences and Technology Harvard Medical School - Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
